Spindles ~ ten motorized, hanging sculptures
wood, galvanized pipe, plastic bags, metal, blisterpac, aviation cable, motors
83 x 19 x 19 inches [approx]
All wood and metal constructs hang from ceiling mounts with attached individual motors. Each spindle is timed to randomly start and stop, and set to spin in irregular patterns of movement.
Unfurl ~ a motorized floor and wall mounted sculpture
luan, underlayment, wood, wire lath, concrete board, aviation cable, hooks, motor
144 x 50 x 360 inches
Wood and metal structural components support layers of underlayment wrapped and suspended between vertical elements. A floor rocker linked to a wall sculpture via aviation cable wire, reacts to a pulse generated by motorized rotations in from the wall sculpture. Subsequently a lurching action yanks the floor rocker that periodically distributes a ripple on the surface of the otherwise passive suspension.
A circuit board structure operates the controls for all the motors in this installation.
